Energy Corrections for Home and Bussinesses

Significance of Directions in Vastu

Vastu Shastra is essentially the study of directions, their meaning and the bearing of each direction on human life in general. While purchasing a plot for residential or commercial purpose – be it in Texas, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait, India or anywhere else - it is necessary to take the advice of a professional vastu consultant. Apart from the shape, soil type, etc. the orientation of the plot has a significant impact on the owner’s life. The direction in which you locate various elements of the vastu (kitchen, bedroom, office, plumbing, etc.) while constructing the home / office is also of importance.

The Directions and their Importance

Vastu shastra identifies four main directions. They are:

  1. East (purva): Since the sun rises in the east, this is the direction of energy. It is considered as a very positive direction. Any good vastu consultant will tell you that the main entrance should be located in the east. If it is a residential vastu, the living room, study and the devghar should be located in the East. Some vastu consultants also believe that this is the direction of family generation. East is governed by the planet Sun.
  2. West (paschim): In general, the west is considered as an inauspicious direction by prominent vastu consultants. It is ruled by the planet Saturn, a very inauspicious planet as per Indian belief. It should be used for garages, overhead water storage, storage room, etc. In other words, it should not be used for any important activity.
  3. North (uttar): Governed by planet Mercury, the north is considered as a positive direction for business and wealth related activities. It is also the direction of intellect and knowledge. Since the deity presiding in the North is Kuber, lockers should also be placed in the North. Some vastu consultants also consider this to be the direction of maternal characteristics, and suggest leaving some open space in this direction for better health and wealth.
  4. South (dakshin): The south is ruled by Mars, with the presiding deity being Yam (the God of Death). Opinions among vastu consultants vary as to the strengths and weaknesses. Most vastu consultants agree that no doors should open facing south. If you are utilizing the vastu for commercial purpose, consultants advise not to make people sit facing the south. It is also not recommended to have kitchens in this direction; it can be safely used as a master bedroom though.

  5. The Sub Directions
One thing that demarcates vastu consultancy is the importance of the sub directions, which are the union of the two main directions. Perhaps no other science / art stress the importance of these sub directions for the vastu as Vastu Shastra.

  6. North-East (Ishanya): This sub direction is the union of north and east. It is extremely conducive to store water. All vastu consultants are in agreement about this. It is also highly recommended that this direction should not have ant fault, as it directly affects the well being of the family. It may also be utilized for the devghar.
  7. South-East (Agneya): The perfect place for locating the kitchen, this direction is for the fire. In Sanskrut, Agneya means ‘of fire’. The main entrance should never be located here. If there are no vastu faults in this direction, it makes the family members full of energy and verve.
  8. South-West (Nairutya): The direction of the evil forces in the universe, this direction should never be unoccupied. And vastu defects in this direction can even result in death of family members. Vastu experts advocate using heavy stuff to reduce the negativity of this direction.
  9. North-West (Vayawya): Vastu consultants agree that Vayawya is the direction of the air element in nature. The name springs from ‘vayu’, which means air in Sanskrut. This corner of the vastu should always be spacious and airy. Since this direction is associated with relationships, it is best suited for second bedroom (if any), storage room, dining and study room.
